Job Purpose: To provide high-quality, person-centred care to individuals who require support due to age, illness or disability. To assist with daily living activities, promote independence, and ensure a safe and comfortable living environment.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal skills are paramount as you will be spending significant time interacting with individuals who might be in a vulnerable state, their families, and possibly other healthcare professionals. Communication skills are crucial, not just for expressing empathy and understanding, but also for effectively conveying important information about the individual's condition. Good organisational skills are a must to manage the variety of tasks associated with the job, from personal care duties to medication schedules. Problem-solving skills and resilience are key due to the often demanding and unpredictable nature of the job. Your ability to stay calm under pressure and to handle challenging situations with sensitivity will be vital.
- Experience: Having some background in care work can be advantageous. This might include formally in a previous role, or informally, such as caring for a family member. Such experience could provide valuable context and practical knowledge for dealing with the realities of care work.
- Qualifications: The Care Certificate is a set of standards that social care and health workers adhere to in their daily working life, this is required for the role.
Desirable qualifications, such as a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) or Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) in Health and Social Care at levels 2 or 3, can provide an additional advantage for holders during application.
- It's a legal requirement that you undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This ensures you're suitable for the role, especially in terms of safeguarding the vulnerable individuals you'll be caring for. If you are from overseas, you would need a police clearance certificate in lure of a DBS.
- Understanding health and safety regulations is important to maintain a safe environment for both you and the individual. Basic first aid knowledge is necessary, as you might be the first point of response in an emergency.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:

- Personal Care: Assist clients with personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, toileting, and grooming.
- Meal Preparation: Prepare nutritious meals, catering to any dietary requirements, and assist with feeding if necessary.
- Medication: Administer medication as per schedule and monitor the client\'s health and well-being.
- Emotional Support: Provide companionship and emotional support, actively promoting the client\'s mental well-being.
- Mobility Assistance: Help clients move around their home, and assist with physical exercises as advised by healthcare professionals.
- Household Duties: Perform light housekeeping duties, maintaining a clean, safe living environment.
- Professional Liaison: Communicate effectively with family members and healthcare professionals, updating them about the client\'s status.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of care, including any changes in behaviour or condition.
Qualifications

- Care Certificate or equivalent qualification in Health and Social Care (NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3) is preferred.
